Tell Me Sandra : An Adaptogenic Mocktail

Are you participating in Dry January? It's a great way to reset after the holidays. I've got some really fun content planned for my Instagram feed as well as this space and wanted to start the year off with a delicious mocktail I've had brewing for nearly two years.




Are you familiar with adaptogens? They're like little stress managers. They help bring the body back into balance when you feel like things have gone off track.


For this mocktail I wanted to create something to induce feelings of happiness and joyful energy. I created a blend using both adaptogens and flowers and infused it into an easy simple syrup: safflower for good luck and happiness, hibiscus to energize us and help root us in our intetions, schisandra for handling stress and sustaining energy, and rosehip to loose joints and reduce tiredness. They all come together in a simple syrup to delight the taste buds AND bring the body back into balance.


TELL ME SANDRA

1 oz joy simple syrup

1/2 oz grapefruit juice

1/2 oz verjus

fizzy water

schisandra sugar for rim


Rim the edge of your glass with a grapefruit slice and dip into schisandra sugar. Keep upside down to dry while building your cocktail.


Pour the simple syrup into a glass and fill with ice. Add the grapefruit juice and verjus to the glass and top with fizzy water. Garnish with a grapefruit peel.


Joy Simple Syrup

1 tbsp dried safflower

1 tsp dried hibiscus

1 tbsp dried schisandra berries

1 tbsp dried rosehips

1 cup sugar

1 cup water


Combine sugar and water in a small pot and bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat. Once the sugar has dissolved completely, turn the heat down to low and add the dried botanicals. Cover and steep for 30 minutes. Strain and cool completely before using.
